Significance
This modest concrete building was built in 1911, when this was a thriving industrial and residential area. In 1937 it was the Marine Café and Tavern, probably serving local workers and seamen, with living quarters above. Henry Kotkins, owner of the adjacent Skyway Luggage Company, bought it in 1945 and the name was changed to the Skyway Café. It is unusually detailed, with a concrete cornice, pilasters on the first story and concrete pediments above the second-story windows. The first-story display windows are covered with wood; the second story windows include original eight-over-eight and older one-over-one wood sash. It has been in residential use for many years, and features a roof garden.
