Summary: This Tip provides guidance on use of the component performance method, sometimes referred to as “Target UA” or “UA tradeoff,” in Section C402.1.5. This method allows some building envelope components to have higher U-factors (more heat loss) than allowed by code, in exchange for other components that have lower U-factors (less heat loss) than are allowed.
