Edgar Court was designed in 1925 by Albert A. Geiser, a local architect who specialized in small apartment houses and residences, primarily in variations of the Tudor style. The owner was C. O. Montague. This highly intact bungalow court includes several English Cottage features such as half-timbering, large chimneys, steep gables, leaded windows and brick and stucco cladding. The ten units, each with its own entry, are arranged in an L-shape around a landscaped courtyard at the rear, sheltered from the noisy street. One unit on Eastlake has a commercial use. The Eastlake neighborhood, despite its small size, has a wide variety of land uses, including industry, maritime industry, marinas, large institutions, a dense commercial strip and single family homes. Its key location between Lake Union and Capitol Hill has long made it an important north/south route connecting downtown with the University of Washington and other neighborhoods. Streetcars began running here as early as 1885, making it a logical location for apartment living. The numerous older apartment buildings, including a significant cluster of bungalow courts, are typically small in scale to fit in with the single family homes.
 
Appearance
Edgar Court has an L-shaped plan, with two gabled wings extending approximately 100 feet along Eastlake Avenue and 100 feet along the side street. Cladding is red brick pn the mian façade with stucco and some half timbering detail in the gable ends and on the rear. The west elevation has a steep gable in the center with a simple porch entry, and a hexagonal dormer toward the south end. Toward the north end of this elevation is a clipped gable with a prominent stucco-clad gabled entry porch below. The south elevation is the most complex, with the gable swooping down over the arched recessed entry to one unit. Toward the rear is an arcaded entry porch, stepping up the hillside. The southwest corner has a brick chimney and blind decorative arch reflecting the arched entry; this contains the cast stone nameplate saying Edgar Court. This unit has a clipped gable, a larger gable rising above it, and an oversized stucco-clad chimney at the rear. The north elevation and rear (east) are clad with stucco. Most windows throughout have 6-over-1 and 8-over-1 leaded double-hung sash, arranged in groups of two or four. The rear courtyard is heavily landscaped with lawn, trees, shrubs and flowers. The street facades also have extensive plantings of shrubs.
