Significance |
|
This concrete service garage was built in 1966 adjacent to Metro Volkswagen's showroom, but on a separate parcel of land. This was probably one of the area's first dealers of foreign automobiles. By the 1960s this vicinity was well-established as a center for auto dealers. The second Denny Regrade (1929-30), east of Fifth Avenue, was completed just as the Depression began and came to be occupied primarily by low-density uses such as auto dealerships. They were able to take advantage of less expensive land for large parking lots and showrooms, whiole still being centrally located.
