This commercial building was built as a grocery store in 1957, and includes a large parking area which was typical for supermarket construction of that era. Architects Rushmore and Woodman designed the building for Tradewell Stores Inc. Presently called the Columbia Plaza, the building is occupied by a variety of vendors. The large paved parking lot south of the building is the site of the weekly Columbia City Farmers’ Market.

This single story commercial building is of structural steel and concrete construction and is supported by a concrete foundation. The building has a rectangular plan and a 20-foot concrete saddle back span roof that extends over the back elevation to form a scalloped canopy. A modern canopy replaced the original front canopy. The concrete block and plate glass windows have been replaced with solid walls. |
