Historic Name: Blaustein Tire Repair Common Name: Illy
Style: Commercial Neighborhood: Denny Triangle
Built By: Year Built: 1920

Significance
A streetcar line began on Westlake Avenue in 1890, and in 1910-11 the street was extended along the west side of Lake Union. This building, constructed in 1920, is part of the considerable amount of commercial development that occurred along Westlake by the 1920s. Its original use is not known, but in the 1930s-40s it housed a tire repair shop and in the 1950s an auto lender, an appropriate business considering the large number of auto dealerships in the area at that time. The concrete building is triangular in plan, to fit the lot along the diagonal Westlake Avenue. It was a restaurant for many years and is now a store, with new display windows and decorative ceramic tile (probably newer) on the pilasters.
