This cottage is significant as an intact example of a patternbook Craftsman cottage. Built during a transitional period this house characterizes national trends in architecture - - clinging to 19th Century form and a bit of classical detail but decidedly 20th Century Craftsman in mass and detail. Fred E. Phillips of South Park Realty was living here in 1915. Gay E. Teter acquired title to this proeprty in 1926.

Appearance
This is an excellent and beautifully preserved example of a Craftsman Cottage. The one & 1/2 story house is dominated by a broad hipped roof with symmetrical hipped dormers on each elevation. It has wide eaves with exposed rafter ends. A full width recessed porch is supported by substantial square columns whose only deocration is simple scrollwork at the capitals. The proch posts and pilasters visually support an architrave, which delineates the first floor level of the house. The front level is clad in narrow clapboard while the half story is covered with wood shingles. The one-over-one double hung windows have deaded glass in the upper light. Pattened stone forms the foundation and a brick chimney rises from the center of the house. This house offers us informaiton about early 20th Century housing and the transition from neoclassical to Craftsman motifs. It also contributes to the historic streetscape and our knowledge of early 20th century South Park. Compare to Fred Fehrer design #160 featured in Wilhlem's Magazine Vol 10, #2 August 1905.
