Historic Name: Unknown Common Name:

Significance
This is a good example of late 19th/early 20th century vernacular architecture. It contributes to our knowledge of the architectural and residential development of Seattle. Additionally, this house has significant historical associations as the residence of Carmack, the discoverer of Yukon gold. Severt Schultz obtained building permits for lots 20, 21, and 22 of Block 5 in Squire Park on February 10, 1902. He is listed in the City Directory as a contractor and builder.

Appearance
This house is fenced and surrounded by heavy foliage so this description is taken from the ca. 1937 tax card photograph. It is an eccentric one and 1/2 story side gambrel house with Dutch Colonial, Queen Anne and neoclassical elements. It has a full width recessed porch, which was supported by classical columns. The porch appears to be enclosed today. The focal point of the house is an asymmetricla, hipped roof dormer with shallow three sided bay. Originally, the house was clad in horizontal siding at the first level and wooden shingles on the second. The windows are all multilight over one window but are seen in a variety of sizes adding to the visual interest of the house.
