Significance |
|
This Streamline Moderne building was designed in 1946 by Young & Richardson for the Rex Land Company, which owned several Belltown properties and maintained their offices here. It was built in 1946, when the local economy was just recovering from World War II, and Belltown was a logical place for downtown expansion. It is notable for its sleek 1940s Moderne design with ceramic tile facing and an aluminum canopy. Historically, it had several storefronts with numerous tenants over the years including restaurants, a 7-Eleven and Scientology. The first floor was remodeled in 1997 for office use, eliminating the original storefronts. The interior has been altered several times as well.
