Significance
In the opinion of the survey, this property is located in a potential historic districe (National and/or local).
This is a good example of the simplified version of the U-shape court apartments that were a popular housing form, primarily in the 1920s. Capitol Hill was particularly popular for apartment construction because of its easy streetcar access to downtown, and this area shows how modest housing was sited close to larger, elegant buildings with numerous amenties. This is Craftsman in style, with some Colonial elements, rather than the more common Tudor-influenced design. This court was built in 1924 and has ten 2- and 3-room apartments. It was fairly modest housing, without conveniences such as refrigeration, that were often found in larger buildings. The central courtyard is narrow and deep, acting more as a lightwell and entry than as a space for activities or socializing. It is elevated above the street and is heavily landscaped, providing a good buffer from the street. The building is highly intact, including the wood window sash. The wood shingles may be replacements, close to the original.

Appearance
This apartment court has a U-shaped plan with an unusually deep narrow courtyard measuring approximately 90 feet long and only 18 feet wide. There are ten 2- and 3-room units, averaging 470 square feet. The street façade, on Summit Avenue East, is two stories, with two units on the lower level in front. Concrete stairs then rise to the elevated courtyard, which the other units open onto. The courtyard is landscaped with trees and shrubs. Each unit has an individual entry sheltered by a gabled hood. The gabled roof has clipped gable ends with returns. Cladding is combed wood shingles. Windows have one-over-one wood double-hung sash. There is no garage.
