This house is important because of its association with architect Elmer Ellsworth Green who lived here during his most productive years as a proponent of the bungalow style. His cataloque of house plans was published in 1912. It is also important because it embodies the distinctive characteristics of the Dutch Colonial Revival style as interpreted in the early 20th century. The house, on a prominent corner at 24th and Pine, contibutes to the historic streetscape.
Purchased by African American pioneers Edward A. Pitter and Marjorie Allen Pitter ca. 1930.

Appearance |
This Dutch Colonial house is characterized by a gambrel roof, strict façade symmetry, and a prominent center entry with decorative sidelights. Shallow bays and the front entrance are sheltered under the flared, enclosed eave. In the rear, a corner bay and a small second floor bay take advantage of a panoramic view from the hillside. The house is shingle clad, has a center chimney and nine over one double hung widow sash. |
