This Craftsman cottage is one of three (615 & 621 20th Avenue) very similar cottages, important as representative of the Craftsman style but also for the importance for the information they offer about early 20th century housing. This cottage enhances our knowledge of residential development in Seattle and it contibutes to the historic streetscape.
These houses do not appear on the 1904-1905 Sanborn Maps. There is some indication that Max Schwartz may have developed these houses. Harry Kossen purchased this one in 1919. The garage was probably added at this time.

| Appearance |
| This 20' x 39', one & 1/2 story cottage has a broad, side gable roof with a dominant hipped dormer. The whole cottage was originally wood shingled but is now covered in vinyl. The porch is inset under the northeast corner of the roof and is supported by bold square columns with scroll brackets. The synthetic siding covers one of them as well as the corner pilaster. Original open eaves with exposed rafter ends have been enclosed. Set high above the street, the cottage is reached by concrete steps and the hillside is contained by a concrete retaining wall. |
