Significance |
|
This building, known as the White & Hitchcock Building, was built in 1930, a period when many light industrial facilities were constructed in Belltown. The availability of land at lower prices made it a good location for industrial facilities such as printers who wanted to be close to downtown businesses. In 1937 it housed a printer and the Washington Quilt Manufacturing Company, part of one of the the city's largest industries at the time, the amnufacture and assembly of clothing and other textile products. In recent years the building has been altered with new windows and storefronts. It retains, however, the cast concrete ornamentation in a simplefied Art Deco style.
