|
The Seaborn House was constructed about 1910. Maine native John Seaborn (b. ca 1872) in his late 20s lived in Minnesota, married Emma Seaborn (b. ca 1872), and started a family. By 1901, the John Seaborn family moved to Seattle and he established the Puget Sound Art Glass manufacturing company, which he ran for 35 years. By the end of the decade the Seaborns purchased some land south of Seattle and constructed a house, which was completed by late 1910 or early 1911. The Seaborns and their two children, Raymond (b. ca 1900) and Margaret (b. ca 1902) established a long residency in the Seaborn House. By the early 1920s Raymond became manager of the Seaborn Lumber Company and continued to live in the house with his parents until he married in the mid 1930s. Daughter Margaret lived in the house until the beginning of World War II. The parents resided there until the end of the 1940s.
Margaret Voigt also lived in the house during World War II. Her husband, Egbert, who operated the Voigt Leather Company, a manufacturer of fine leather goods, joined the Army during the war.
This is one of the earliest homes in this portion of Beacon Hill. The Seaborn House appears to meet City of Seattle Landmark criteria due to the age of the structure (over 90 years old) and minimal alterations.
