|
The Kreyscher/Gent House was constructed about 1904. William H. Kreyscher, an architect and builder, owned the property and liked designed and built the house in 1904. Kreyscher owned most, if not all, of the lots on this block and likely sold the houses as the were completed. Daniel Gent purchased one of his houses and the Gents lived there for five or six years. Daniel Gent worked as a caller and stock keeper for Northern Pacific Railroad. Also residing there were Oscar Gent, who worked as a laborer for Washington Iron Works before becoming a fireman for Seattle Fire Department. Roy Gent, another member of the family, printed for Kelly Printing Company. They Gents moved from the house about 1911. They continued to own the residence until 1915 when they sold it to Jennie and William H. Austin, an engineer and machinist. In 1927 E. T. Sanborn acquired the house.
The Gent House appears to meet City of Seattle Landmark criteria due to the age of the structure (over 100 years old) and minimal alterations.
