Based on field work conducted in September 2014, this historic property retains its relationship to the streetscape, historic building form and a sufficient amount of exterior historic building fabric (design features, cladding and/or window sash/openings) to contribute to the distinct character of the Georgetown neighborhood.
This is an altered but relatively intact historic property that may possess some limited architectural and/or historic significance. This property exhibits substantive changes to the exterior appearance since it was identified in the 1997 HRI project: cottage style windows have been removed/replaced by vinyl product.
(1997) This property is associated with the residential and commercial building boom in Georgetown which occurred between 1890 and 1916. Fueled by the construction of the Seattle Brewing and Malting Company’s new brewing facility after the turn of the century and the arrival of foreign immigrants, especially German and Italian, Georgetown came to rely more on its commercial and industrial bases rather than agricultural. With the increase of industry and business, Georgetown had grown in population from 1,913 in 1900 to approximately 7,000 by 1910 as families located themselves near its factories and other places of employment. The original owner or builder of this residence has not been identified. The house is known to have been owned by Mary Tosarelli, the widow of Dominick Tosarelli, by 1924. She resided here by 1926 and apparently owned the property for many years. This property may pre-date the construction date identified on assessor’s records and is worthy of additional research to determine a more accurate date of construction and original ownership.

| Appearance |
| A generally intact however altered example of a hybrid hipped-roof vernacular house type. This small house type was commonly constructed throughout the American West during the later half of the 19th C and the early decades of the 20th C. This example exhibits distinctive design features and historic building fabric associated with popular architecture design modes during the late 19th C. and early 20th C: a distinctive one-story cottage form accentuated by a slightly bellcast/flared hip roof, a projecting front porch and a combination of original tall, narrow double-hung and cottage type windows. The house is currently clad with brick pattern asphalt siding laid over the original narrow clapboard siding and board skirting. It includes modest features drawn from the popular late 19th C Queen Anne design mode: flared eaves, slender round wooden columns, and exposed (scalloped) rafter ends. These features were further popularized and elaborated in Craftsman and Bungalow residential designs during the first two decades of the 20th C. The footprint of the principal portion of the house is 26’ x 40’ and includes a small one story rear wing with porch. An original front entry door appears to remain in place. Exterior alterations of note include the construction of concrete entry stairs at the front porch. A portion of the central brick chimney missing the corbelled cap remains in place. |
