These modest storefronts represent a rare building form in Seattle, a one-story U-shaped apartment court with commercial stores at the front. There have been a variety of businesses over the years, including a fishing tackle shop (1960), an architect (1970) and a mailbox company. But for most of the building's existence there has been a barbershop or a beauty shop in one of the storefronts.

Appearance
The street façade has two small storefronts, with stucco cladding, stepped parapets and wood-and-glass entries in the center center flanked by large display windows with metal sash. The storefronts appear to be largely intact, although the window sash may have been replaced; the doors have been replaced. Between the storefronts is a stucco gate entering a narrow courtyard flanked by apartment units. A second arch is at the west end of the courtyard. Each unit opens onto the courtyard, with a hipped hood over its own stoop. At the rear are two hipped-roof wings with two doors onto the alley; these doorways have concrete steps and metal awnings. The rear windows are vinyl sash, but others are largely original wood frame. Cladding on the residential portion is primarily clapboard with cornerboards, with shingles below the water table.
