The German Evangelical Church was first established in 1891, meeting at West Harrison Street and Taylor Avenue North. In 1907 that facility was replaced by this building, which was initially called Evangelical Auditorium. It ceased operating as a church in the 1960s and sat vacant until being renovated for use as a counseling center in the 1970s. Although it has not been used as a church for decades, it remains one of Queen Anne's oldest and best examples of vernacular religious architecture. Its most distinctive features, two large stained glass windows on the east and north facades, remain intact. However, the original steeple and the four small turrets that surrounded it have been removed, and other windows have ben replaced.

Appearance |
This large gabled structure has a square tower at the northeast corner. Cladding is clapboard with brick on the basement level. The original entry is through a Gothic-arched doorway at the base of the tower. The current entry is through plain double doors at the basement level at the southeast corner. Large Gothic-arched stained glass windows remain on the north and east elevations. A circular window at the top of the tower has been replaced with plain glass, as have arched windows in the tower and above the current entry. There are also two plain square windows above the stained glass arch on the main elevation. The north elevation has a large gabled dormer with prominent brackets. |
