This house is one of a row of five (816-828 23rd Avenue) excellent examples of vernacular residential architecture interpreted in the popular style of the day. These houses are simple vernacular forms decorated in Queen Anne and Eastlake motifs.
This block was not mapped on the 1893 Sanborn Map but these houses appear in a row of eight identical houses on the 1904-1905 Sanborn Maps. Backley Gordon acquired this property in 1927.

| Appearance |
| This house is a traditional one and 1/2 story gable front form with cross gable to the north. The cross gable creates a shallow L which provides a side entrance porch sheltered by the extended eave of the roof. The house is embellished by handsome applied sawnwork, vertical siding, gable trim and decorative windows and window frames characteristic of the Queen Anne and Eastlake styles. The porch is supported by turned posts and has decorative spindlework. |
