Little is known about the early history of this house, which is one of the older ones in the vicinity, dating from 1904. It has had a number of owners over the years. It was purchased in 1939 by Charles E. Wilson; later owners included Michael D. Holly (1968) and Ronald R. McAffee (1971). The house appears to be largely unaltered or restored to its original appearance; the shingles in the gable ends have probably been replaced in the last century but are very similar to the original.
Notes from G. Lange's Pre-Residential Survey: Bay windows (3-sided) norht & east elevations. Double hung windows with beveled sash. Small shed addition to rear. Rear balcony added post-1937. Sited on corner lot. Full width porch with Doric columns. Small window added to side elevation.

Appearance |
This cross-gable house has a hipped-roof full-width porch on the main (east) façade, with four slender square columns, a plain balustrade and a lattice window. The entry is at the south end of the façade, marked by a gable in the porch roof. Above the porch is a three-part window, with a spider pattern in the center transom. Cladding is clapboard with wider clapboard and fishscale shingles in the gable ends; these are painted in complementary colors that give them increased emphasis. There is a water table and a belt course above the second floor windows. The foundation is of historic rock-faced concrete block. Each gable end has a prominent bracketed cornice separating the clapboard and shingle cladding. Windows are primarily one-over-one, with one in each gable end, two on the second floor on each elevation. The north elevation has a hipped bay with three windows, flanked by two similar windows. |
