In the opinion of the survey, this property appears to meet the criteria of the Seattle Landmarks Preservation Ordinance. In the opinion of the survey, this property is located in a potential historic districe (National and/or local). This building, noted in the city-wide survey in the 1970s, is a good example of a vernacular Queen Anne house. It is notable for its ornate gable end ornamentation of spindles and scrollwork—an uncommon feature of Seattle homes. While the ornament has been replaced over the years, it is similar to that seen in the 1937 Tax Assessor’s photo. The four-light first-floor window, while in keeping with the house’s character, replaced the original thirty-over-one sash. Turned posts have been added to the porch as well. The original owner of the 1904 house is not known, but it was owned from the 1920s to the 1950s by Gustaf and Hanna Carlson. Notes from G. Lange's Pre-1906 Residential Survey: Large gable dormer and small hip dormer on west elevation. Bay window. Eave brackets. Porch (recessed) has slight alteration. Rear addition.   Appearance This house has a gable-front-and-wing form with ornate ornament in the gable ends. A slightly recessed porch is north of the front gable; a flat roof with three turned posts extends the porch to the west. The porch and the stairs to the south have simple square balusters. A four-light window and a paneled door with beveled glass (probably not original) open onto the porch. Above the entry is a small hipped dormer with a single 20-light window. South of the entry is a two-over-two window, with a one-over-one window above in the gable end; the south side has two similar windows on each floor. The north elevation has a hanging bay with a 30/1 window. The ornament in the gable ends has spindles surrounded by scrollwork; the bargeboards also have ornament. The gables flare slightly at the bottom, above a plain frieze and a cornice with decorative curved brackets. Cladding is clapboard with wood shingles in the gable ends and vertical boards below the water table.
