Significance

This 3-story brick-clad apartment building was constructed in 1930, according to the 1937 King County Assessor property card, in the Uptown neighborhood. The building is known as the Viking Apartments. It was constructed by T.N. Askell for an estimated cost of $50,000.

 
Appearance

Constructed in 1930, this apartment building is located midblock on the west side of Second Avenue W between W Olympic Place and W Roy Street. The site slopes down from north to south. The 3-story building has a mostly rectangular plan and stands on a poured concrete foundation. The building has a flat roof with a parapet. A tile clad pent roof projects from the cornice line on the main (east) elevation. The building’s main elevation faces Second Avenue W and the main entrance is located at the north end of the elevation. The building’s elevation is divided into two nearly identical bays. A buff colored brick door surround and pediment mark the recessed entryway. Metal lantern sconces flank the entrance. The front door is wood with a large lite with leaded glass sidelights on either side. The buildings features metal replacement windows. Brick soldier courses form the window headers. The window openings are also highlighted with brick lug sills.

The building retains moderate integrity and is a good example of a brick-clad apartment building.
