This 1904 building is one of the only extant wood-frame multifamily commercial buildings within the district. It is the earliest commercial building included in the inventory and is intact except for storefront changes. A plumbing company, Lavine & Thomas, originally occupied it. Lavine & Thomas previously operated at another location within the district. J. N. Thomas & Co. continued to occupy the building until 1915. Jasper N. Thomas was also the proprietor of the Dresden Hotel, which occupied the upper two floors of the building. In the 1930’s, the building changed hands as well as name; Mrs. Rosa Walker became the proprietor of the Walker and Dresden Apartments.
