Significance |
|
This is a good example of a craftsman bungalow, a style and form that are less common on Capitol Hill than in some other Seattle neighborhoods. This was built in 1914, relatively late for this style. Aluminum siding has been installed over the original shingles, probably in the 1950s or 60s. The garage was also replaced about the same time. Despite this alteration, it retains a significant number of Craftsman characteristics, including its brick porch piers and chimney, multipaned windows and knee brackets.

Appearance |
The bungalow has the typical side gable form with a large gabled dormer on the front and a gabled porch. Cladding is aluminum siding, although it is not very noticeable. The roof has deep eaves with extended rafter tails, knee brackets and pointed bargeboards. The wide front porch is of brick, with heavy clinker brick piers supporting the gabled roof and a turned balustrade. Windows appear to be intact, except for a few replacements on the basement level. Those on the front are 12-over-1; the east side has two three part windows with 12-over-1 flanked by 6-over-1 sash. The second story has banks of 6-over-1 windows in the gable ends on the front and sides. An unusual feature is that the brick chimney is on the front of the house, running alongside the main dormer and through its roof. |
