In the opinion of the survey, this property appears to meet the criteria of the Seattle Landmarks Preservation Ordinance.

Based on field work conducted in September 2014, this historic property retains its relationship to the streetscape, historic building form and a sufficient amount of exterior historic building fabric (design features, cladding and/or window sash/openings) to contribute to the distinct character of the Georgetown neighborhood.

This is a well-preserved historic property that appears to possess architectural and/or historic significance. This property exhibits no substantive changes to the exterior appearance since it was identified in the 1997 HRI project. Soundproof storm windows appear to have been added.  See WISSARD report prepared 10/28/2008.

(1997) This property is associated with the residential and commercial building boom in Georgetown which occurred between 1890 and 1916. Fueled by the construction of the Seattle Brewing and Malting Company’s new brewing facility after the turn of the century and the arrival of foreign immigrants, especially German and Italian, Georgetown came to rely more on its commercial and industrial bases rather than agricultural. With the increase of industry and business, Georgetown had grown in population from 1,913 in 1900 to approximately 7,000 by 1910 as families located themselves near its factories and other places of employment. This house was reportedly built for or by August Faust, a carpenter known to have worked at the Reitz-Stetson Mill Company in South Seattle by 1889 and to have resided on Flora Street by 1905.

Appearance
A well preserved and generally intact example of Queen Anne residential design, a dominant architectural style used for domestic building during the late 19th C. Although slightly altered, this residence exhibits particularly distinctive design features and historic building fabric, including: an asymmetrical building form accentuated by a prominent front gable and hip roof, numerous distinctive leaded/stained glass cottage windows, flared wall surfaces and original cladding (variegated w/diamond pattern shingles and narrow clapboard w/ corner boards). Original tall, narrow double-hung windows (some with vertical arched divided lights) also remain in place. The house may have originally consisted of only the gable front portion. The current small gabled entry porch roof supported by tapered columns on brick piers appears to have been constructed sometime since 1973. Originally the front porch extended along the width of the front gable wing and had a truncated shed roof supported by wooden (turned?) posts. Portions of three original red brick chimneys are visible but have been lowered in height. Original gable spindle-work has also been removed. A small one story cottage (c.1902) is situated behind the residence at the alley side.
