This building is one of a group of four commercial vernacular buildings, which as a group are important because they enhance our knowledge of residential development in Seattle and remind us that this was a late 19th and early 20th century commercial hub when Seattle's first streetcar line traversed Yesler Way and Jackson Street. The collection of buildings (2601, 2603, 2609 Jackson and 406 26th Avenue South) contributes to the historic streetscape at this corner and south on 26th Avenue South. This property was acquired by M. A. Weed in 1915. In 1937 it was L. O. Mershon's Garage.
