Significance |
|
This modest building was constructed in 1947, a period when this industrial area near the waterfront was undergoing considerable change. During World War II Seattleās waterfront was heavily used to ship troops and supplies to the Pacific Theater. In subsequent years western Belltown converted from the earlier industries of fish processing and manufacturing to lighter industrial uses such as small warehouses. This is one of several small buildings in this vicinity constructed or heavily remodeled in the 1940s-50s. It was occupied by Johnson Controls and the Worthington Corporation, probably as an office and warehouse. The Roman brick cladding and industrial steel sash are typical of a small industrial building of the period. It retains the original steel window sash on the second story and the first floor is boarded up. It has a garage door at the south, allowing truck entry for a warehouse.
