Summary for 2100 1st AVE / Parcel ID 1977200735 / Inv #

Historic Name: Trading Post Common Name: Patagonia
Style: Commercial Neighborhood: Belltown
Built By: Year Built: 1920

Significance
This typical 1920 commercial building appears to retain its traditional appearance, but has been significantly updated. It was designed in 1920 by architect K. Hamilton Rowe for owner Zbinden and Gerbel. In 1937 the primary tenant was a second-hand store, the Trading Post, in the corner location. Other businesses were Silver’s Sheet Metal Works and the Boston Laundry. A fourth storefront appears to have been an auto-related business with a garage entry at the north end. The building was later owned by the Bethel Pentecostal Church for twenty years (1967-87) before being purchased by the current owners, who returned it to retail use. The front entrance has been significantly altered, with the corner entry recessed, but the exterior wall and transom windows remaining. The building at 106 Lenora is part of this structure, but has a separate survey listing.

Appearance
This simple commercial block is of solid brick construction with buff brick cladding. The bays above the storefronts have pedimented parapets with metal coping and courses of simple decorative brickwork. The display windows have new windows and multi-light transoms similar to the original. The main entry has been altered and the original garage entry at the north end has been converted to a storefront.
