This is a good and apparently intact example of an American Foursquare or Classic Box, one of the most popular house types on Queen Anne and Capitol Hill during the first decade of the 20th Century. It has many of the typical characteristics, such as the hipped dormer and corner bay window. The gable on the side is an unusual detail in this style. The house was built in 1906, but the builder and original owner are not known. The first identified owners were Harvey and Myrtle Tomlinson, who lived here from 1926 until the 1940s. Later owners included Ida Eikenberry (1950s-60s); Helena Dorgan (1960s) and Rita M. Owens (1970s). The house was clad with asbestos shakes in 1955, but they have been removed and it has been restored to its original appearance.

| This Foursquare has the typical hipped-roof form, with a more pyramidal form than typically seen in Seattle. It has deep boxed eaves with curved brackets. Cladding is clapboard with shingles beneath the porch roof and in the gable end on the east side. The projecting porch is on the west side of the main (south) façade with a hipped roof, a clapboard balustrade and two hexagonal columns with applied ornament around the top. The sidelights at the front door are leaded glass. The front (south) elevation has a hipped bay with two multipaned windows. At the southeast corner of the first floor is a projecting corner bay with brackets and a hipped roof; the two large windows have leaded upper sections in a diamond pattern. Just north of this is a rounded hip-roofed bay with three similar windows and oversized brackets. Above, on the east side, is a large gable set into the eave, with carved bargeboards and stickwork. Other windows are one-over-one sash. |
