Historic Name: Gellesley Apartments Common Name:
Style: Other Neighborhood: University
Built By: H.W. Rogers Year Built: 1925

Significance
The Gellesley Apartment building is significant as a relatively intact example of a brick box apartment building. The original owners were G & D Investment Company, and the architect was H.W. Rogers. Although some of the original terra cotta decorative features have been removed, it retains elements of the Collegiate Gothic style typical of much larger apartment buildings in the University District.

Appearance
This three-story brick box apartment building is situated facing east on its lot. The building is clad in brick siding with terra cotta decoration. A two-story terra cotta decorative feature surrounds the inset main entrance, centered on the front elevation. Directly above the front entrance is a pair of double-hung windows, also on the third story. These paired windows are flanked on either side by a series of three single double-hung windows and another pair of double-hung windows; this pattern is repeated on both the second and third stories. The original cornice has been modified; much of the original terra cotta decoration has been removed.
