Summary for 904 1st AVE / Parcel ID 7666206660 / Inv #

Historic Name: Anaconda Wire and Cable Company Common Name: Automated Equipment
Style: Commercial Neighborhood: Pioneer Square
Built By: Year Built: 1929

Significance
In the opinion of the survey, this property is located in a potential historic districe (National and/or local).
This is a simple, utilitarian commercial warehouse building which retains charm, particularly because of its multi-pane pivoting sash and the streamline parapet. It dates from 1929. It apparently housed several businesses, including Anaconda Wire and Cable, a subsidiary of the Montana based Anaconda Copper Company. The building was most probably used for offices and storage, while the adjacent Alaskan Copper Company provided distribution of their products. This building is described as part of the City of Seattle’s portion of the Boundary Increase to the Pioneer Square Historic District, but not as part of the National Register Historic District.

Appearance
This is a one story building of reinforced concrete with a rectangular footprint and a flat roof. Its main one-part façade along First Avenue South is distinguished by its low streamline stepped parapet, its large plate glass display windows and intact multi-pane transoms, with pivoting sash. The south wall is now exposed because of the demolition of the adjacent building, which has not been replaced.
