This house was built in 1922 for A. Moe Goldstein, manager of the Bernhard Shoe Company, and his wife Rose. The designer and builder was John D. Hall, listed in the city directory as “Builder and Designer of Fashionable Homes.” The Goldsteins lived here through the 1940s, until it was purchased by John P. Gallagher in 1950. It had four owners during the 1960s-70s. The current owners have been here since the 1980s.

Appearance |
The house sits high above the street with a concrete retaining wall, with the pathway going along the north side to the entrance. The house has red brick cladding and a hipped roof with deep boxed eaves with shaped brackets. There are entries on the north and south elevations, but not on the street (east) side. The south has a wide bay with a bank of windows on each floor with French doors in the east end; above these doors is a round-arched window with leaded glass. The north elevation has another entry with a square hanging bay above, with a small wrought iron balcony. The east elevation (facing the street) has a one story sunporch wing, enclosed by multipaned windows; the flat roof is a porch, with an ornate wrought iron railing. An unusually wide brick chimney is near the center of the east façade. |
