Summary for 4026 2nd AVE / Parcel ID 4206901400 / Inv #

Historic Name: Common Name:
Style: Arts & Crafts - Craftsman Neighborhood: Wallingford
Built By: Year Built: 1915

Significance
Designed and built by owner, M. Maggs (1611 8th Ave. N.) suggesting that Maggs was the developer of the property rather than the resident owner. Construction was completed in 1915 near the end of Wallingford's initial building boom. A garage was built on the site by owner J. Ruthe in 1921, however it apparently is no longer extant. The structure is a nice example of the mature craftsman bungalow and, although somewhat compromised in terms of integrity, is representative of several houses in the neighborhood featuring porches running the width of the house.

Appearance
Shingle clad, 1-1/2 story frame residence on concrete foundation over half basement. Moderately sloped simple roof with exposed rafter tails (now partially hidden by added gutters)over rectangular plan, shed roofed dormer, triangular timber kneebraces supporting wide barge boards at side gables, porch running width of house with battered, shingle clad piers supporting porch roof, timber porch railing, and "saddlebag" bay at south elevation are all typical elements of the craftsman bungalow style. The dormer is original but the dormer windows have been replaced. Posts either side of entry appear to have been added and entry stairs appear slightly modified.
