Significance
This house was built in 1893 on block 9 of the plat of Columbia. The plat of Columbia was filed on August 5th, 1891 at the request of J.K. Edmiston a representative of the Washington Co-operative Home Company. This house was likely built for David C. Brown who owned the property in 1895 according to tax assessor rolls. Brown gave to house to Harry A. Taylor in 1935, but Brown retained the land. Taylor moved the house one lot east to lot 213, which he had purchased from Brown. Taylor was the owner of Taylors Brothers Grocery, which was located at 4851 Rainier Avenue S. Harry and Marie C. Taylor lived in the house from 1935 until at least the early 1950s. The house is significant as one of the few remaining early residential buildings in the Columbia City historic district.
 
Appearance
This one and a half story vernacular house is of wood frame construction and is supported by a concrete foundation. The house has a rectangular plan and a side gable roof form. A gable dormer is centered on the front elevation. The main roof form extends to cover a full-width front porch which features two prominent decorative arches. A bay window extends from the west side elevation. The house is clad in asbestos shakes. The fenestration consists of large fixed pane windows and horizontally divided two-over-two single hung windows. A large fixed pane picture window is located to the west of the front entrance. Two single hung windows are located on the front dormer and on the west gable end. A large fixed pane window is flanked by single hung windows on the bay window.
