This group of five small houses is significant as a fairly intact example of a cottage group near Ravenna Park in the University District. These cottages were not built at the same time, but over a twenty year period from 1927 to 1945. It appears that these cottages have been used primarily as rental properties; they are currently all under one ownership. They are known locally as "railroad cottages;" however, they were built much later than the nearby railroad line, which dates from the late 1880s. They reflect the vernacular character of modest worker (or student) housing built during the Depression.

| This series of five single story residential vernacular cottage houses are situated facing west on their lots. The addresses of the cottages are 5002, 5006, 5010, 5016 and 5020 Ravenna Avenue NE. (Several similar cottages also owned by Trinity Partnership are located on the block to the south - between 4724 and 4760 Ravenna Avenue NE.) Each of the cottages varies in appearance; they were built over a twenty-year period. The cottages are clad in wood shingles and have metal roofs, which are not original. The cottages retain much of their original integrity.
