Significance |
|
A streetcar line began on Westlake Avenue in 1890, and in 1910-11 the street was extended along the west side of Lake Union. This building, constructed in 1925, is part of the considerable commercial development that occurred along Westlake by the 1920s. It is also an example of an early auto-related building in the area. By the 1920s the auto had become so popular that some dealers and repair shops began to move away from the Pike/Pine corridor, the city’s original auto row. Westlake was the location of choice, due to its flat lots with little development, and its convenience to downtown and residential neighborhoods.

Appearance |
This building is designed to fit onto a sloping triangular lot. The east elevation looks largely original, with metal industrial sash on the second story; the display windows appear to have been replaced. The west side has been transformed with a new entrance and windows, housing a law firm on the second story. |
