This Queen Anne cottage is notable as one of the oldest and most intact houses remaining in this area, one of the first sections of the neighborhood that was settled. The exact construction date is not known, as it probably pre-dates the 1900 date given. It is also one of the few extant examples of the simple Queen Anne cottages that were once commonly found here. Other houses of this age in the vicinity are more altered. The house was noted in the 1970s city-wide historic resources survey.
The first identified owner was Sophie Coralla, who owned the house from 1935 until 1951. It has had numerous owners since then, and appears to have been used as a rental house for many years. The house extends to the back and was a duplex by the time of the 1938 Tax Assessor's survey.
Notes from Lange's Pre-1906 Residential Survey: Hip roof with gable wing. Double hung windows with beveled sash. Shed addition in rear. Recessed porch.

Appearance |
This cottage has a gable-front-and-wing form with a porch to the west of the gabled section. The porch features spindlework, a turned post and simple square balusters. The front door has large window and a wide wood surround. Cladding is clapboard with clapboards, shingles in the gable end and a water table. A pent roof runs along the bottom of the front gable. Most windows have lozenge-shaped muntins in the upper sections, characteristic of the Queen Anne style; other windows are one-over-one. The house is on a hill and has two stories on the rear. The basement level on the west side has two entries with gabled hoods. The rear (south) elevation has a porch on the second floor with a shed roof porch below it. |
