Historic Name: Bell Street Studios Common Name: A'jhang Market Style: Italian - Italianate, Vernacular Neighborhood: Belltown Built By: Year Built: 1907   Significance In the opinion of the survey, this property appears to meet the criteria of the Seattle Landmarks Preservation Ordinance. This wood-frame vernacular building and the small building to the south (on the same parcel) are among the oldest remaining structures in Belltown. They stand out because of their high degree of integrity, a reminder of Belltown's early character. This building was built in 1907, and has had a wide variety of uses over the years. In 1938 it was a taxidermist known as Bell Street Studios. In the 1940s it was Garretson Radio Supplies. From 1990 until about 2005 it was Wall of Sound, a well-known independent music store that was an important part of the 1990s Seattle music scene that was centered in Belltown. It is now a grocery store, with lodging rooms above.   Appearance This two-story building has an intact storefront with large display windows with operable transoms. The first floor is clad with brick, now painted gray, with wood clapboard on the second story and rustic siding on the north façade. A notable feature is the deep cornice with Italianate brackets. The two second story windows on the front façade have newer aluminum sash with the original wood surrounds. The north elevation has three pairs of windows and the entrance to the upstairs rooms, located at the northwest corner.
