Summary for 113-115 Bell ST / Parcel ID 1977200630 / Inv #

Historic Name: Ice Delivery Company Common Name: Driscoll Architects
Style: Commercial Neighborhood: Belltown
Built By: Year Built: 1927

Significance
This two-story building is largely intact, except that the original garage door has been replaced with a modern entry. It was built in 1927 and was the headquarters of the Ice Delivery Company. The eastern section was the garage entry for ice trucks. The building's steel window sash indicate its industrial origins. In 1980 it was converted to theater/retail use, known as the Brass Ring, and was converted to ofice use more recently. The building is deep (119 feet) and the parcel extends around to Second Avenue. Toward the rear of the building is a former loading dock, which opens onto a parking lot on Second Avenue; this was probably a loading area and warehouse for the ice company. This was retail space until recently, and is now an office.

Appearance
This two-story building is of solid brick construction with red brick facing. The only ornamentation is the cast stone coping on the parapet and simple decorative brickwork. The first story has a storefront at the west end, with multilight transoms above the display windows. To the east are two very large display windows, perhaps enlarged before 1937. The garage door at the east end has been replaced with a modern door and window. The second story and the alley façade have metal industrial sash, mostly 9-light pivoting windows on the front, with larger ones on the alley. Th elaoding door near the southeast corner (visible from 2nd Avenue) has also been modernized.
