|
This house embodies the distinctive characteristics of an American Foursquare house form with Praire and Classical details. It is very similar to the Fred Fehren designed house at 1501 East Jefferson (Design #172). It is important because it enhances our knowledge of vernacular architecture and residential development in Seattle and because it and its setting contribute to the historic streetscape.
This house appears on the 1904-1905 Sanborn Map. Esther Mutchler purchased it in 1930.

Appearance |
This Foursquare house has the low hipped roof and wide exposed eave of a Prairie style house along wit a low hipped dormer. It has strong horizontal lines created by the roof, the wide windows, the narrow beveled siding and architrave-like delineation between the first and second floors. The focal point of the façade is a flori-form decorative window with surrounding frieze. A porch is set into the southeast corner of the house while the northeast corner is a curved bay window. Three fat columns "support" the façade. Upper lights of the first floor windows are starburst patterned. |
