The Canterbury Court was designed by Henry H. Hodgson and constructed by Slawson Construction Company. The 15 bungalow court suites were constructed at a cost of approximately $35,000. 12 of the units are on the ground floor with 5 garages in the basement; the remaining three apartments are on the second floor. The Bungalow court was a popular form of apartment in the late 1920's and 1930's. Canterbury Court is one of several bungalow courts in the University District and is the most elaborate design and the most intact example in the area.
 
Appearance
The Canterbury Court is a U-shaped bungalow court type apartment complex. The 15-suite bungalow court is representative of the Tudor Revival style. The exterior consists of rustic brickwork, shingle, and half timber/stucco cladding. The main section of the structure is two-story, while the two extensions of the U-shaped plan are single-story. Chimneys flanked by small multi-paned windows and bay windows are located at the terminating ends of the U-shape.
