Historic Name: Common Name: Style: Arts & Crafts - Craftsman Neighborhood: Wallingford Built By: Year Built: 1909   Significance In the opinion of the survey, this property appears to meet the criteria of the Seattle Landmarks Preservation Ordinance. A very nicely executed craftsman bungalow connected with the office of Jud Yoho, a man whose name has long been associated with bungalow design in Seattle. Although the permit lists Jud Yoho & Company as the applicant, it is not clear what role (or roles) he had in the development of the property. Like many north end builders working in this period, he sometimes played the role of developer, designer, builder and resale agent. Construction of the house was completed in 1909. A detached garage was added to the site in 1927 by owner Harry Dow. The house retains a high degree of integrity and is architecturally significant because of its skillful detailing and the degree to which it exemplifies many of the best aspects of the bungalow style. It also is significant as an example of Jud Yoho's work; his Craftsman Bungalow Company was for several years a major promotor of the bungalow style. In addition, Yoho was a Wallingford resident for several years at the height of the neighborhood's first building boom.   Appearance A wood and shingle clad frame bungalow on a concrete foundation over a full basement. The rectangular plan is capped by a hipped, overhanging roof with exposed rafter tails; however, the entry porch gable facing the street is the strongest character-defining element of the roof structure. The gable entry barge boards are supported by triangular timber knee braces in typical bungalow manner. The gable itself is finished with stucco and false timbering. A horizontal drip mold acts as a belt separating the shingle clad upper portions of all four elevations from the clapboard finished lower portions. Several of the window sills and all the porch railing caps appear to be integrated with the drip band, which thus deftly coordinates several details of the façade. Another horizontal head band is continuous with the base of the entry gable and the head casings of the windows. The building corners are all cased between the drip mold and this head band. The four part window assembly at the street elevation features a long horizontal rectangular window with leaded glass over a nearly square window flanked by two rectangular openings; the window frames and casing are carefully coordinated with the horizontal banding noted earlier. The chimney is located at the south side elevation where it penetrates the eave. A bay extends southward from this elevation east of the chimney. Wood steps at the entry have been appropriately replaced; a less appropriate metal rail has been added there as well. Gutters hide at least a portion of the rafter tails
