Significance
In the opinion of the survey, this property is located in a potential historic districe (National and/or local).
This one story brick building dates from 1926. It was originally a warehouse. It was converted to a restaurant in 1943 by architect Donald Dwight Williams. It was then that it was given its storefront facing Fairview Avenue North. It has operated as a restaurant since then, under a series of names, including the “234 Broiler,” the “Family Affair” and its current name “Fairview Bar and Grill.” In the late 1960s, when it became the “234 Broiler” it was “remodeled:” windows and brick exterior were covered over with various types of veneers and the building was temporarily “modernized.” As it turns out, most of the late 1960s changes were reversible. The additional “covering” and various veneers have since been removed. The building looks like the brick warehouse building it originally was. The building is the last building of its age on the east side of Fairview. It is typical of the neighborhood in that it is one of the original warehouses, but it has operated as a neighborhood restaurant and gathering place since the 1940s, which makes it also somewhat unique.

Appearance
This is a one story brick building with a flat roof. There is a parapet on the main west facing elevation and the north elevation. Soldier courses of brick emphasize the edge of the roof parapet, the top of the storefront opening, as well as other openings. Large rectangular openings, particularly on the north elevation have brick sills. The plan is rectangular.
