|
This building is important as a rare, relatively intact example of a late 19th century commercial building. It enhances are knowledge of residential development in Seattle and, along with the two buildings to its east and south, reminds us that this was a very early neighborhood commerical hug when Seattle's first streetcar line traversed Yesler Way and Jackson Street. It was built abourt 1895 and appears on the 1904 Sanborn Map as a drugstore. 1937 and 1951 photographs confirm that the building was th long-time location of Weed's Drugstore. (Ownership records indicate that M. A. Weed acquired adjacent buildings in 1912 and 1915).
