The existing house was built in 1908 according to the King County Property Record Card prepared in 1937, and in 1904 according the King County Assessor Property Characteristics Report (accessed in 2004). A permit (#23871) was issued in November 1903 to owner Enebo Christiansen (who gave his address as 116 19th) for construction of a 14’ x 24’ cottage at 3710 Wallingford. Another building permit (#39872) was issued in 1906 for construction of a concrete foundation to support a 1-1/2 story frame cottage (24’ x 36’). On this permit, Christiansen listed his address as 3710 Wallingford. The permit for the existing wood frame portion of the structure has not been located.
Christiansen built a wood shed on the property in 1911 (permit # 101362). Christiansen, who is described as a carpenter in Polk’s Seattle Directory, continued to live with his wife Josephine at 3710 Wallingford until 1916
The property was owned by Kate (or Kath) Hagen when it was surveyed by the Assessor in 1937. She appears to have acquired the property the previous year (in 1936), although she had lived at the site with her husband, Sigurd Hagen (a “master mariner”) since 1919 or 1920. Mrs. Hagen continued in residence there until 1951 or 1952.
By 1953, John J. Minde was living at 3710 Wallingford according to Polk’s Seattle Directory. It is not known if Minde owned the property, but he or a member of his family lived there until 1959. Walter C. Parsons and his wife apparently purchased the house in 1960. Delbert P. Granlund seems to have acquired it in 1966 and remained there for at least a year.
The current owner, Robert L. Mortenson, has lived in the house since 1968.
Nyberg and Steinbrueck described this structure as a building significant to the Wallingford community. The house is an intact example of transitional design incorporating elements of both the Queen Anne style, which was fading in popularity at the time of the building’s construction, and the Craftsman style, which would soon become ubiquitous in the Wallingford neighborhood. The design of the front facing dormer appears to be unique among houses built in Wallingford.

| Appearance |
| This is a 1-1/2 story, clapboard clad, frame residence with a quarter basement on a concrete foundation. The roof slope, the enclosed soffits with bracketing, and the Late Queen Anne massing are typical of houses built in the years just preceding the completion of this particular structure. The paired wood columns at the outside corners of the front (street) facing dormer, the lintel that spans between them, and the small wood pedestals that support them together form a unique eclectic element that seems borrowed from beaux arts work. The craftsman style double-hung windows (in some cases ganged) and a bungalow type window assembly in the street elevation (consisting of a square fixed window flanked by two narrower units and surmounted by a long transom window) are elements of the design that seem to look forward to the popular bungalow style that became common in Wallingford in the years after 1906. No significant modifications to the structure or its detailing are apparent. |
