In the opinion of the survey, this property appears to meet the criteria of the Seattle Landmarks Preservation Ordinance. In the opinion of the survey, this property is located in a potential historic districe (National and/or local). This large house has a considerable sense of presence, sitting on a large lot with parking to the north and hidden by large trees. It was built in 1907, although the original owner and builder are not known. The first identified owners were George and Myrtle Clithero, who purchased it in 1926. In the 1940s it was purchased by Reverend Vern Lavik, the Lutheran Foreign Mission Director, and his wife Bernice. They operated it as a home for Lutheran missionaries at least into the 1960s. The Lavik family still owns the house today. The house looks largely intact, although the front porch has been rebuilt and expanded slightly on the southwest. Its leaded glass, clinker brick chimney and pedimented gable roof were noted in the 1970s city-wide historic resources survey.   Appearance This large Colonial Revival house has a gable front roof with a large dormer on the north elevation. The porch extends across the front and partway along the south side; its flat roof forms a deck for the second story. The porch has four round columns with simple capitols, and a plain balustrade that is repeated on the upper porch. The front door is flanked by leaded glass sidelights and two large windows. The second floor has similar large windows and French doors onto the porch. Most windows are one-over-one, while those on the front have leaded glass upper sections. The north elevation has a secondary entry with wood staris and a shallow shed-roofed bay with brackets and four tall narrow windows. The north dormer has three one-over-one windows.
