Significance |
|
This simple glass pavilion was built in 1962 as Metro Volkswagen, probably one of the area's first dealers of foreign automobiles. The adjacent service garage was added in 1966. By the 1960s this vicinity was well-established as a center for auto dealers. The second Denny Regrade (1929-30), east of Fifth Avenue, was completed just as the Depression began and came to be occupied primarily by low-density uses such as auto dealerships. They were able to take advantage of less expensive land for large parking lots and showrooms, whiole still being centrally located.
