Significance |
|
According to Woodbridge and Montgomery, this site was once occupied by a concrete block store. (When the present structure was surveyed in 2004, a neighbor reported that it had previously been a "hamburger joint.") Woodbridge and Montgomery note that, over some years, the house was remodeled into a "remarkable contemporary house . . . by its owner and architect, Folke Nyberg" and go on to assert that, in Nyberg's design "the influence of early Modernism tracable to Scandinavian roots is combined with a contemporary concern for using salvaged materials and a sure touch with scale and detail." The structure was brought to its current form in 1980 according to the King County Assessor Property Characteristics Report; however, Nyberg and Steinbrueck assign the building the date of 1971. Nyberg and Steinbrueck identified this house as a structure significant to the city and warranting further evaluation for designation as a landmark.
