This building is improtant to our understanding of the history of education in Seattle. It is one of the oldest surviving school buildings. It also is important architecturally as representative of the type of frame school building that characterized early education facilities. It is further important for the informaiton it offers about residential development in Seattle. The Walla Walla district was one of the earliest district neighborhoods in the Central Area. By the late 1890's, Minor School at Union and 17th could not accommodate the students from Walla Walla and classes began meeting in a commercial building at East James and 21st. IN November of 1901 a referendum was held and one year later the Walla Walla School opened.
 
Appearance
This is a two story frame school building with hipped roof and neoclassical ornamentation including fluted entrance columns Palladian window and denticulated cornice. Windows are four over four double hung sash and there is a daylight basement.
