Significance
A signage at this site reminds passers-by that Dunn Lumber has been "Making friends since 1907." Indeed, this site has functioned as a lumberyard since settlement began at the base of Latona Avenue before the turn of the 20th Century and Dunn Lumber is one of the oldest businesses in the Wallingford neighborhood. The present building was erected in 1938 according to the King County Assessor Property Characteristics Report but has been modified and expanded several time over the years. The Property Characteristics Report suggests that the large single story storage shed attached to the original building was added in 1983. The building has been remodeled again since the photograph attached to this file was made. Although described in the King County Assessor Property Characteristics Report as a one-story structure, the portion of the building occupied by the retail store (at the northeast corner of the site) is actually a two-story facility.
